Spring Fire Department Takes Big Step Towards International Accreditation

After participating in a beta test program from the Center for Public Safety Excellence, the Spring Fire Department is excited to have completed a major step towards international accreditation.

As one of only 14 agencies participating in the test program, and the only one from Texas, Spring Fire received a CPSE Community Risk Assessment/Standards of Cover Certificate of Excellence for completing this comprehensive analysis.

“Several members of our team made this possible,” said Spring Fire Chief Scott Seifert about the effort led by Deputy Chief Landon Churchill, Community Risk Reduction Director Alex Bregenzer and GIS Analyst/Accreditation Manager Mark Leander. “They took on an intensive process requiring months of data gathering and analysis which will be crucial to achieving accreditation.”

“Our goal is always to get your crews where they are needed when they are needed and to consistently improve the services that Spring relies on,” added Churchill. “This SOC sets baselines for emergency response and helps us set benchmarks for improvement.”

“Our CRA was a deep dive into our response territory to identify risks and vulnerabilities,” said Leander. “Whether those risks are in neighborhoods or in certain demographics, the more we know the more we can prevent and mitigate risks here in Spring.”

“Reducing the number and severity of emergency incidents begins with fully understanding the risks that our community members meet each day,” said Bregenzer. “This CRA/SOC is an amazing tool to show us where we can do better and help determine what risk reduction measures are most needed.”

“We participated in this beta program because we are always looking for ways to improve,” added Seifert. “While it’s exciting to make a quick stop on a fire on someone’s worst day, preventing it from happening is another level of excitement all together.”
