Spring Firefighters Make a Big Climb to Fight Blood Cancers

Several Spring Fire Firefighters completed the Big Climb over the weekend to fight blood cancers.

The Spring Fire Big Climb team, led by Senior Captain Kevin Sides and Captain Eric Holz, included firefighters Marc Corbeil, Kevin Jennings, Jessilyn McDuffie and Byron Velasquez.

The firefighters climbed 50 floors to raise $3,150 to help fight Leukemia and Lymphoma.

They made the Big Climb in their helmets, bunker pants and a Spring Fire Department “65 Years in Service” t-shirt.

Making the climb for Pappy, Spring Senior Captain Kevin Sides from Station 74 received the trophy for top first responder fundraiser and finished 5th overall.
“I want to thank everyone who donated for the Big Climb,” said Sides. “It means the world to me and it feels awesome to have your support.”

You can still donate via the Spring Fire Department page on the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society website here: http://events.lls.org/pages/txg/bigclimbhouston18/SpringFireDepartment.

Firefighter Marc Corbeil climbed for Judy.
“If anyone would still like to donate please do it is for a great cause,” added Sides. “Every dollar helps to find a cure.”
