Dinner with the Barretts

By Hannah Falcon

Home cooked Sicilian dinners have been on the menu at Spring Fire stations these past two weeks courtesy of Elisabeth Barrett and her husband Jimmy Barrett, the host of the KTRH Morning News.

Elisabeth Barrett volunteered herself to cook for every shift of firefighters on both sides of I45. That adds up to six meals for dozens of hungry firefighters each time.

After visiting Station 71 during the Spring Fire Department’s “65 Years in Service” celebration in April, Elisabeth wanted to give back to the firefighters who work tirelessly to protect her Spring home.

“[I wanted] to give back, because they’re first responders, and with everything they’ve gone through with Harvey, we thought it would be something they would appreciate, to get a homemade meal,” Elisabeth Barrett said.

On Tuesday, May 22, Spring Fire Department Chief Scott Seifert and Bob Schmanski, President of the Emergency Service District 7 Board, stopped by for spaghetti dinner with the Barretts and firefighters at Station 71. Seifert presented the Barretts with Honorary Fire Station Chef and Sous Chef certificates and a bouquet of flowers to thank them.

“They have gobbled it up and they have all been very appreciative and thankful for thinking of them,” Elisabeth Barrett said.
